AI and ML: Make Your Computer Your Best Friend

Artificial Intelligence is a term that has captured the imaginations of sci-fi enthusiasts for decades. I bet you must have come across the terms AI and ML at some point in your life and thought what are these actually but then life took over and you forgot it completely.

No worries, I am here to give you a brief overview of AI and ML, what are these terms used for, and the difference between the two. I can assure you that you will enjoy knowing about it even if you are a complete tech novice. So what are we waiting for, Let's dive in!

Firstly Artificial Intelligence (or AI as commonly referred to) is an attempt to replicate human intelligence through machines (sounds fascinating!). But for any machine to be classified as AI-enabled it must satisfy three requirements:

  • It must be able to learn, that is acquire data and rules.

  • It must be able to reason, that is draw conclusions using the learned rules.

  • It must be able to self-correct, that is correct itself without human interference.

Machine Learning (commonly referred to as ML) is a mathematical model which replicates the decision-making process of a human mind allowing systems to learn new things from data, thereby enabling automation which leads to the development and deployment of basic AI.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

MACHINE LEARNING

Aims to increase chances of success.

Aims to increase accuracy.

It is a computer program that does smart work.

It is a simple concept that takes the data and learns from it.

It works for finding optimal solutions.

It will only go for finding a solution whether it is optimal or not.

AI and ML are commonly used together and many times used interchangeably because of the close relation in the development of AI through ML. AI is decision-making. ML allows systems to learn new things from data.
Now you know the difference right? You are intelligent, I know that's why you are here! :-)

So after knowing AI we must talk about its superpowers and limitations.

Superpowers:

It can perform superhuman tasks with ease. For example; data entry and validation of 100,000 data points will take weeks for a human, but it can be accomplished in a matter of minutes using AI. (surprising right!)

It can perform repetitive tasks with ease and accuracy. For example; evaluation of test results of university students within a matter of hours with near hundred percent accuracy. (amazing right!)

It is employed in medicine as it can easily detect bodily anomalies and alert the doctor even before the patient begins to feel the starting symptoms giving considerable lead time to healthcare professionals.

It can work in hostile environments such as space explorations where it is impossible for a human even to survive let alone conduct research and experiments.

It enables self-thinking robots as your digital assistants. (Who knows, you might have a robot best friend shortly! Are you as excited as I am?)

Limitations:

It is highly difficult to simulate human intelligence as it is a widely unexplored domain.

Our existing capabilities are very limited to only a few domains as it requires high development costs.

The in-Depth explanation of AI and ML is beyond the scope of this article. I have tried my best to present it in an easily understandable and comprehensible format.

Did you find it useful or was it difficult? Let us talk in the comments!
