Robotic Process Automation or RPA in short is the delegation of repetitive and monotonous tasks to AI-enabled robots to improve efficiency and reduce the cost of the operation.

Example- Tasks like data entry, inventory management can be easily delegated to automated software (or, I’ll say Robo-deligated!!) to utilize the precious human resources in other innovation-intensive tasks.

1. Defense- Most technological innovations trace their roots in the defense sector. Therefore it is almost a no-brainer that advanced robotic technologies are specifically developed for defense. The defense sector is the most prominent user of Robots be it drones, automated bomb detection, and disarming or enemy tracing missiles.

2. Space Exploration- Robots form an indispensable part of the space crew. Many robotic missions have been launched to inhospitable planets and asteroids. Robots play a crucial role in places inhospitable for humans. Example Parker Solar Mission which has touched the surface of The Sun.

3. Manufacturing- RPA has been an integral part of the manufacturing industry since the industrial revolution. Robotic arms are used in a variety of tasks such as cutting and welding metals, lifting tonnes of load, etc.

4. Banking- Banks call centers to receive many calls regarding balance inquiries, loans, interest rates, and offers. There are specific answers for the same, automation of these tasks increases performance and reduces customer waiting time.

5. Financial Consultations- RPA is used to automate the data into a standard format for the target application thereby saving time and hassle. Similarly, consulting firms streamline the client data in an acceptable and helpful format for future use.

6. Insurance- insurance companies use chatbots for company websites. Automation of back-office works such as administration, claims, etc. has reduced the application time from three hours to less than three minutes.

1. Food and Beverage- Reduction of ordering time and hassle-free payments using apps and websites have tremendously increased user convenience.

Automation of various processes such as self-scanning has substantially decreased the check-out time of the customers, increasing customer satisfaction😊.

To sum it up: RPA has helped businesses create new business models by saving costs and increasing revenue. Although it has decreased many unskilled job opportunities, it has opened immense possibilities for the unskilled workforce to get small skill training and avail themselves of more paying jobs than before.
